If you want to become a bail bondsperson in Ohio, you’ll end up learning about all of that plus some during your education and certification process.

Steps to Become a Bail Bondsperson in Ohio

Contact the Ohio Department of Insurance for more information about how to become a bail bondsperson.In order to become a bail bondsperson in Ohio, you will have to complete several steps and tests. Here’s how becoming a bail bonds agent works:

  1. You will have to complete pre-licensing education for surety bail bonds through the Ohio Department of Insurance. The pre-licensing education certificate is required to take the licensing test. The educational program entails either completing a 20-hour classroom course or an approved self-study course.
  2. You will then be required to complete a PSI exam. Test preparation information can be obtained through PSI Services. The test can be taken at any PSI Services Center in Ohio. Upon satisfactory completion of the test, you will receive a Surety Bail Bond certificate.
  3. After passing the exam, you will complete the Surety Bail Bond application. You also must complete a state and FBI criminal background check through WebCheck. The application, supporting documents, and results of the background check will all be sent to the Ohio Department of Insurance.
